KLAVIYO VS MAILCHIMP
FOR ECOMMERCE.
We're a Klaviyo agency, so read this knowing where we sit. The comparison below is about product fit for ecommerce specifically, not a claim that one platform is universally better.
| Factor | Klaviyo | Mailchimp |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Ecommerce specifically | General-purpose marketing (ecommerce, newsletters, small business) |
| Store integration | Deep native Shopify/WooCommerce sync: orders, product catalog, and behavior flow into segmentation automatically | Ecommerce integrations exist but are less central to the product’s overall design |
| Segmentation | Behavior- and purchase-based segments as a core feature | Available, generally considered less granular for ecommerce-specific behavior |
| Flow / automation depth | Purpose-built for lifecycle flows: abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase, win-back | Automation exists but is less specialized toward ecommerce lifecycle triggers |
| Typical use case | Ecommerce brands scaling email as a primary revenue channel | Small businesses and brands wanting one platform for email, basic CRM, and simple automation |
[ NOTE ] Both platforms update features and pricing regularly. Check each provider's site directly for current plans before deciding.

Is Klaviyo always better than Mailchimp for ecommerce?[+]
For ecommerce brands specifically, Klaviyo's deeper store integration and purchase-behavior segmentation tend to be a better fit once revenue from email becomes a real priority. Mailchimp can still make sense for very early-stage brands wanting one simple, general-purpose tool.
Is migrating from Mailchimp to Klaviyo difficult?[+]
It's a real project, not a toggle: list export and cleanup, re-authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) on the new platform, and rebuilding flows to Klaviyo's architecture rather than a straight import. See our [Klaviyo migration service](/services/klaviyo-migration/) for how we handle it.
Does switching platforms hurt deliverability?[+]
It can if done carelessly: importing a dirty list or skipping proper authentication setup on the new platform are the two most common causes. Done in the right order (list hygiene first, authentication second, then flows), a migration shouldn't damage sender reputation.
